Since it was founded in 1955, the Festival has been held in the Roman Acropolis in Lebanon each year, showcasing artists and performers from around the world. During the months of July and August, some of the largest and best preserved roman temples in the world are provided as venues, not only for contemporary rock music , but for symphonic orchestras, operas, jazz, live theatre, including the drama school founded by the Festival itself to promote Lebanese works for the stage. The Baalbeck International Festival is the oldest event of its kind in the Middle East and has established itself as a notable patron of the arts. The impressive historical setting and the myriad of performance set against its backdrop attracts thousands of spectators each year.
