Sometimes when traveling, it's good to do something unashamedly highbrow, to enrich the mind and elevate the soul.
Budapest is a city of incredible cultural riches and since 1992, it's been the home of the BudaFest Summer Opera and Ballet Festival. This renowned annual festival takes place in one of Europe's most beautiful opera houses, the Hungarian State Opera House, and now attracts the country's most distinguished singers and ballet soloists, as well as featuring the Opera House's own chorus, dance troupe and orchestra.
Though designed as a showcase of the best Hungary has to offer, BudaFest has a growing international flavour and has played host to the Santiago Ballet from Chile as well as soloists from the Paris Opera and the ballet company of the Vienna Staatsoper. It has also branched out to feature outdoor events which are staged at the Hilton Dominican Court and outside the Basilica. Even if you're not a ballet buff by nature, seeing a great performance in an evocative setting like this can weave a surprisingly strong spell.
I've never seen anything as beautiful and gracious! Watching a ballet in Budapest doesn't only sound exotic but also is a truly unforgettable experience!
