The first Beaujolais Nouveau wine of the year is released, with plenty of hype and excitement, at midnight on the third Thursday of November in the capital of France’s Beaujolais territory, Beaujeu-en-Ligne. An event much anticipated by both wine buffs and students alike, the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau is cause for celebration in bars, restaurants, homes and public spaces throughout the country. Not that an excuse is needed to open another bottle of wine of course but it always helps to have an entire nation to celebrate with. If you do feel the need to bluff your way through a glass at a local bar, be sure to have it served slightly below room temperature and expect a light, fruity and crisp taste in the mouth. Stare knowingly into the glass after a taking a sip to complete the look, you should fit right in.
