Naoshima is a small island, with a population of barely 4000 people, situated on the Seto Inland Sea. It is also one of the hippest places in Japan, feted by the likes of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The reason? Well, it happens to be the location of the unique gallery/hotel/hub-of-cool hybrid that is Art Site Naoshima. This unique project merges contemporary art and architecture in a beautiful natural setting. The heart of the project is the strikingly designed Benesse House, a museum space where guests are able to stay overnight. The house was designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and embodies the spirit of the project. This is a unique and fascinating place, cutting-edge but also welcoming and accessible.
