Sydney’s most distinctive hotel is a bit of a drama queen. Housed in a former warehouse on a pier overlooking Woolloomooloo Bay, its stylish interior at times verges on the theatrical. Many of the wharf's original timbers and girders, and even some of the old machinery, have been left exposed to superb effect. Inside there’s a big blue atrium peppered with armchairs and ottomans (also blue), while other public areas are decked out in dramatic pinks and purples, giving the place a retro-futuristic vibe. The 100 loft- style rooms are chicly furnished with touches of luxury, and many boast great views of the marina as an added bonus. Blue’s ultra-fashionable edge may have faded a little but it’s still racking up plaudits like nobody’s business and remains one of the best places to stay in Sydney, and the location, surrounded by the eclectic restaurants that run along the wharf, with the Opera House only a short taxi ride away, takes some beating.
