Spend a few days at Cowley Manor near Cheltenham, a gorgeous boutique hotel set in an Italianate-styled 1885-built Grade II listed building, and you'll be talking about it all year. Spend some time in its state-of-the-art spa set in a separate modernist glass-walled building within the hotel's gardens and you'll be talking about it for a lifetime. Simply entering it seems to be part of the calming treatment as you come to two serene heated swimming pools sunk into the hotel's gardens lined with chic white sun loungers. A gym, sauna and steam room stand to the side, and all the while you can look out through the building's glass walls, as if in a greenhouse. Treatments from facials to wraps to a dozen massages are on offer, and all the skin-care products and oils are specially made for the spa by renowned aromatherapist Michelle Roques-O'Neil. Staff are friendly and polite without being obsequious and are quick to bring you fruit and juice to soothe you more.

Wonderful rooms, fantastic views, superb bar and restaurant and the Spa was beautifully relaxing - if you need to wind down and be pampered this is the place.
