I was born in Guyana, but grew up in the US, with lots of Trini friends from college. I've been going for the last three years in row with my girlfriends. Each time I say it's the last. But I can't stop. Been to several Caribbean carnivals in the US and Europe - they don't compare AT ALL! The vibe is missing. Trini carnival makes all others look like child's play.
Savvydesigner, N. Bergen, NJ 17/2/2008For me the most beautilful carnival experience was
that of 1973 - and productive too! Our baby Mariagrazia Nadaan was born a little later and now I have 10 year old grandson!
I'm from Jamaica, and experienced my first Trini Carnival last February. I had such a fabulous time that I was too exhausted to participate in my own carnival! Organizers, keep up the good work!
Trini born Jamaican, Kingston Jamaica 20/4/2007My husband enjoyed carnival 2007 so much that he cannot stop talking about it and we are in the month of April! I promise him that I will be there for 2008 Trini Carnival.
Triniwife, NYC 08/4/2007As a native, I miss my roast bake and saltfish, crab and callaloo, mauby and tasty roti. The fine weather, good musica and the handsome men. I will be returning home for Carnival 2008.
annlettdemills, Springfield,Massachusetts 06/4/2007My first experience, and it will not be my last. I got my rest, not sleep, and was ready to enjoy all the sights and sounds of carnival. This is the carnival - every where else I'll say is just festival. My stay in Trinidad was priceless.
Ms B Haven, St Thomas 30/3/2007Yes I'm from T+T and I've always loved carnival. I just wish the gov. would fix the roads, beaches and homeless problems!
chow, nj usa 24/3/2007The Trinidad carnival is amazing!
yramkiss, Melbourne, Florida 20/2/2007Plane ticket - $700. Spending Money - $1500. T & T Carnival - priceless!
2Triniw/luv, California 28/11/2006There is nothing like a true Trini carnival - the mother of ALL Carnivals, often imitated, never equalled. Carnival brings out the spirit ot Trinis who know how to party! Just experience life in it's entirety. Carnival shows how life is supposed to be.
PROUDTOBETRINI, NYC 03/11/2006Go to Trinidad. It's the greatest show on Earth!! For carnival you just take a "rest" you don't "sleep". After playing mas for 2 days, nothing after that is a problem.
artrinidadian, Florida 24/9/2006Trinidad Carnival is the greatest festival on earth. I am of Trini heritage and remember my first experience at 8 years old. The people of Trinidad embrace you like one of their own regardless of where you are from. Carnival is about music, food and playin' mas. It is a cultural explosion of fun. If you have an opportunity to go, do so, it is truly worth it.
Socasweetgirl, Nassau, Bahamas 14/9/2006Best place in the world by far. People are friendly, music is great and the food is delicious. What a beautiful island!
Canadian Girl, Winnipeg 05/9/2006Trinidad Carnival is one of the things you must experience in your lifetime. The only draw back is that you will want to go back year after year. Trinidadians are a friendly fun loving people. Carnival is such a beautiful expression of freedom.
Matt, Boca Raton 10/7/2006THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH!!!
trinimini122, HARTFORD 26/6/2006As a person who has been to both carnival in Trinidad and carnival in Rio, I have to say carnival in Rio is no where near as good in comparison to Trinidad. Beautiful women, great food (have to try a roti), great music and of course great parties. I got a chance to see a calypso performer named Machel Montano, and he threw a great party. Definitely going back next year.
Rodney Whyte, Nottingham, England 30/5/2006The Trinidad Carnival is a MUST!
I went this year, made some friends, and will definitely go back.
It’s pure life!
It's the best time you will have in your life! I go every year and it gets better every year. As one reviewer has said, if you can go without sleep for 72 hours, then you will love Trinidad Carnival.
Jay, Toronto 30/3/2006As a native who moved away and recently returned, I now know why I yearned to go back. The weather, people, food and "canival"(as pronounced by us) are definitely an earth-shattering experience. Enjoy a slice of heaven, come to my home!
Hubert Clarke, San Fernando, TnT W.I. 28/9/2005Trinidad women are the sexiest on the planet! Makes Mardi Gras and Rio look like a sunday afternoon picnic..... in Trini wonderland you get to participate not just watch.
Do not go if sexy women turn you off!
Just fantastic! Beautiful colours, costumes, food, music and people. Excellent weather too! I had the best holiday ever.
phillip, London 29/8/2005Definitely the place to be for all dance/alcohol "freaks". By the time you leave, you will feel like you have done everything there is to do on Earth and that the Lord may now take you "home".
sethu, johannesburg 10/8/2005A fantastic experience if you can go without sleeping for 72 hours or so.
My favorite is the J'ouvert celebration which takes place the Monday morning (4am) before Ash Wednesday. You drink your limit of alcohol (and a bit more), cover yourself with mud and paint, and dance, bump, and grind all through the streets of the capital. Basically, the only thing open in the city during those two days is bars - so maybe you go some more over your limit of alcohol. (Don't worry, you dance it off).
Great time.
Oh wow. It is definitely a must-do in life. If you are at all musical, make some friends that play in a steel band, and try to get in!! An awesome place. I am going back next year.
