Since Hillary and Norgay ascended Everest in May 1953, more than 1500 people have climbed the 29,022ft peak of the greatest mountain on earth. That said, just trekking to Base Camp in Sagarmatha National Park is a feat itself.

Climbers fly into Kathmandu from where the trek can take three weeks - longer if you want to enjoy the Buddhist monasteries and Sherpa villages en route. Yaks carry your gear, porters set up camp en route, and by the time you get to the 18,188ft camp at Kala Pattar, you are in striking distance of the big one herself. Well, another 11,000ft to be precise. You can see the summit from here and you soon realise why locals call her the Mother of the Universe. You also see the real pros preparing final expeditions to the top. Who knows, impress them enough, and you could go with them.

Don't forget the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!

You are right! Even getting to Everest Base Camp is an achievement you can be proud of.

Of course I've, never climbed Mount Everest. But to witness its majestic white spires first hand is reason enough to write. Two weeks of the hardest walking that any non-mountaineer is likely to attempt is made to look easy by hard legged locals with seemingly limitless energy.

It will take you some effort to even see the approach to its crystal peaks, but those who have will never forget.

Try and take the "Everest Trek" or the "Jomsom Trek" or the "Annapurna Trek" in Nepal. Especially for mountaineers worldwide it'll be the best experience ever. The views are exhilarating and there is also the chance to learn a culture different from your own. If you don't believe me, try reading the hundreds of travel journals on Nepal you can easily find on the internet. GOOD LUCK and don't miss out this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
