No trip to the French capital would be complete if you didn’t pick up a few gourmet delicacies, a few decadent treats to take home with you. After all, the city is crammed with some of the world’s most enticing delicatessans and patisseries.
One of the best known, almost accorded national treasure status, is the legendary Fauchon, located on place de la Madeleine. Seriously upscale in every way, the store is the ideal place in which to pick up a gift for the foodie in your life (especially of that person happens to be you).
The store is divided into three sections: an epicerie, for preserves, condiments and exotic canned goods; a patissier, for breads, pastries and chocolates; and a traiteur, for cheeses, pates and terrines. It goes without saying that prices are on the steep side, but everything is gloriously presented and there are goodies on offer here that you won’t be able to find anywhere else, even in a gastronomically-orientated city like Paris. If you can’t wait to get your purchases home, then Fauchon has a restaurant and a tea salon on the same premises, the latter an ideal place to indulge yourself after a wearying morning of shopping.
