Widely regarded as the best restaurant in the US – if not the world – Chef Thomas Keller has turned this cosy old stone building in this small Napa Valley town into a global destination, hallowed ground for food lovers the world over. To book a table you need to phone months ahead, but rest assured that extraordinary creations such as salmon tartare in an ice-cream cone and ravioli with black truffles that come in a humidor-like box are out of this world. The 60-page wine list is dominated by boutique Napa wineries that are the perfect accompaniment to the food and setting. Expect to pay about US$250 for the 9-course tasting menu though. If you still can’t get a table, why not try Keller’s new restaurant in New York City, Per Se, where the waiting list is said to be a mere two months.
