Want to feel alive, really alive? Want to feel part of a heaving, manic, happy throng? Then get thee to the Glastonbury Festival and, whether you are goth or hippy, emo kid or old school rocker, whether the rain is pelting down or the sun turning unaccustomed porcelain skin scarlet, you will still feel at one with those around you. It's not just the music, it's something in the air.

The Glastonbury Festival is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world and it keeps getting bigger and better with every passing year; this is the festival by which all others are judged and if you haven't got your tickets yet (it sells out in a flash these days) then get on your knees and pray one comes your way.

Reviews of Glastonbury Festival

It's almost here again - I have my tickets and I can't wait!

My score:

It rains, is full of pretentious clowns and you have to sleep in a tent. What's more you have to pay for the pleasure. Don't do it you fools.

I've been twice and no other festival comes close. The first year ('98) it rained heavily on the days leading up to, and throughout the weekend, creating a mud bath which put a bit of a dampener of things. I still had a great time though. The highlight was seeing the fat dancer from Take That finally making something of himself. The next year ('99) was much better - the sun really makes a difference to this festival. You can laze on the grass, get a tan and enjoy everything this living city has to offer. The highlight of that year for me was finally seeing REM, and the Sunday when Travis sang "Why does it always rain on me?" just as it started raining.

My score:

Glastonbury is all about the years when it did and the ones where it didn't, and then of course there was the year none of it happened - what am I talking about? Rain. I slogged through two years of it wearing bags over my feet in protest at elevated wellington boot prices. Then, the year after it was so hot I thought I'd had it. Whatever the weather though, Glastonbury is unique and makes the likes of those Carling 'Weekends' look very poor and very commercial. Anyway, I'm off to buy some wellies, I'll see you at the stone circle, I'm the one with the silly hat.
