Ever fancied just hurling yourself off the top of a cliff and feeling that plummeting sensation in your stomach as gravity takes its course? Well, the Zambezi Swing in Zambia, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, could be the answer to your – faintly insane – dreams.
The set-up is deceptively simple. You strap yourself into a full body harness (safety checks take place before each swing), sprint along a wooden platform and then throw yourself over the edge before plunging 50 metres while a pulley system takes you out into the middle of the 75-metre deep Bakota Gorge. The experience ends as you bounce up and down like a yo-yo, and is like a bungee jump but with twice the adrenalin.
Few adventures combine the feeling of fear and freedom in such equal measure, but if the prospect is too much, you can always settle for the “flying fox” – where you are attached to a cable that runs across the gorge – or abseiling. It is gorge-swinging, though, which is the true test of your mettle. Can you handle it?

Reviews of Gorge Swinging
Rappelling's fun and all, and the "flying fox" rocked. But the star power here is clearly the gorge swing. It's really a wonderful sensation. The freefall is exhilarating (and noisy, between your screams and the rush of the wind). Then comes the swing, which is completely silent -- your speed slows enough that the wind noise drops away and you're left with a beautiful calm suspended in the middle of the gorge.
