Though it sounds like something from the mind of science fiction writer (or at least a Dubai architect), this is very real. Should you ever wish to take dinner under water, as manta rays swim inches from where you sit, you can do so at the unique Ithaa restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Islands. OK, on one hand it screams of gimmick, but on the other hand what could be cooler than under-ocean eating. The restaurant sits 15 feet below the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a coral reef, and is housed in an acrylic shell that can seat up to 14. Diners eat their meals (a satisfying mix of Maldivian cuisine blended with European and Asian flavours) in front of panoramic underwater views. It’s easy to get distracted from the food altogether, this rich marine world unfolding in front of you, a dining experience you’re certain to carry with you in your memories.
