Not everything in Geneva requires a bank balance the size of Luxembourg’s GDP and the iconic Jet d’Eau is a case in point. Soaring 140m into the air above Lake Geneva, this is the world’s tallest fountain. Whether viewed from across the water, through the masts of the many yachts and sailboats that moor up around the lake, or from closer in, it is a truly remarkable sight. Up to 7 tonnes of water can be held in the air at any one time, reaching speeds of 124mph and occasionally drenching those foolish enough to go too close! Located on a valley basin surrounded by mountains, Geneva is known for its windy climate and the Jet is occasionally turned off when things get too blustery, but pass by while a trade show or UN Summit is on and you will rarely be disappointed.

The jet d'eau is in fact a good tourist attraction for its majestic beauty yet for the Swiss, it is a matter of pride and is really practical when sailing on the lac de Leman, to know that you are close to Geneva's central area.
