The Jules Verne Restaurant in Paris

Official Site (lejulesverne-paris.com)

If you’re looking for a gastronomical experience with a difference, why not ask for a table with a view in the Jules Verne restaurant? Located on the second platform of the Eiffel Tower’s south pillar, this is France at its very best: succulent food (the wold-renowned chef Alain Ducasse took the helm on January 1, 2007), palate-tingling wine, superb views – and an inevitable touch of romance for which Paris is famous.

It’s a good idea to book well in advance - waiting lists currently stand at about three months for dinner bookings - and the meal will not come cheap, but once you’ve been greeted by the staff after making your way up to the restaurant in a private elevator, the concerns of the real world will seem far away.

Dinner at night is particularly enchanting, as the lights are dimmed discreetly so as not to distract from the awe-inspiring view of Paris itself, but lunchtime is not exactly a hardship either in one of the world’s most evocatively situated restaurants. With its black leather and haute cuisine, the Jules Verne experience manages to be chic and tasty at the same time. No trip to the French capital is complete

Reviews of The Jules Verne Restaurant

Went for lunch. Excellent food, expensive but not ridiculous. Service friendly and prompt. A 'must do' experience.

150-190 EUR fixe price for a menu per person! Food not as good as expected. Not worth the money!

My partner and I booked a meal at the Jules Verne for dinner on the internet. They took details of the credit card (we even had a telephone from the bank checking if it was fraud or not), and we were emailed a confirmation. A few days later we receive an email telling us that we do not have a booking and that they have a space available for lunch if we want it! Imagine how my partner and I feel. Our honeymoon (as the restaurant knew), a confirmed booking, and then they tell us we don't have a booking.

This is a romantic must. I surprised my wife for our 20th anniversary with a night at this restaurant and it was an experience we shall never forget. I had to reserve months in advance, and reconfirm the day before, but we had the best window seat in the place, overlooking the historic part of Paris. We stayed until after dark and loved viewing the lights of Paris from this ultra-romantic location!

I knew that high-priced gourmet meals were not exactly what this plain ole' steak and potatoes guy would care for, so I didn't have high hopes for the food. But, wow! I absolutely loved the steak I had - and the milk-fed veal that my wife had was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The service was great - I have never had so many waiters serving me. (Even a guy whose only job is to cut the cheese!) It cost hundreds, but the experience was worth millions to us.

I took my wife and daughter to dinner at JV for our daughter's 20th birthday; she is doing an internship in Paris this summer. I lucked out on a reservation for dinner on 9 days' notice simply by calling the restaurant and waiting for about 20 minutes. Food was fabulous (dessert of crispy coconut crust with tiny strawberries and white chocolate top and lime sorbet was best ever); sommelier recommended a very nice 90 Euro bottle of wine, which I appreciated; service was - to my surprise and relief after reading the other reviews (sorry, but how you could ride up the exclusive elevator several hundred feet and then conclude that you were supposed to take the stairs down is just incomprehensible to me) - just as good as the food. Most importantly, the service was FRIENDLY, even entertaining. You know, I've heard Americans complain about the French for most of my adult life. Somehow, I've never encountered those French. Just lucky, I guess. Anyway, to those who read these reviews, please go to this restaurant. It's a worthy experience.

I tried to book a reservation 3 months ahead as they say on their web site. When I did, I was told via fax that they only accept reservations 60 days in advance. At 60 days I tried again by fax and was told that nothing was available and that I could have booked 90 days in advance. Reading what some others experienced, I guess they did me a favor.

I enjoyed it but was surprised at the prix fixe pricing. Somewhere along the way of finding this restaurant online and making the reservations, I totally missed the price part and thought it was overpriced for the quality/quantity. Everything went great - until we were about to leave. The door was open to go down the stairs where everyone else was and I was yelled at and reprimanded and belittled by the dining room manager for attempting to walk down the stairs. The door was open and there was no sign but apparently customers were not permitted to walk down "these particular' stairs. That's fine but don't talk to me like a five year old after I just spent $500 for two people in your restauarant.

My wife had really wanted to go here, but as we had only booked our trip two weeks before we thought we were too late. However I telephoned the restaurant on the Saturday afternoon and they did have a spare table for us that evening. It all started well; the private elevator; warm welcome; nice views etc. When we sat down we were asked, straight away, if we wanted a drink, which we ordered. At the same time I asked for a wine list. My wife got the camera out and a waiter came over and offered to take some snaps of us. Then it all went down hill. The wine list didn't arrive before the food did. When the main course arrived they delivered it the wrong way around. As my wife was having lobster they had to swap the cutlery around as well. This was all done without any apology. Half way through the main course I asked, again. for the wine list. This time it arrived and I ordered a bottle of red. I asked the waiter for two glasses (as my wife hadn't ordered wine at the start). The waiter thought that I only wanted to order two glasses rather than a bottle. He snapped back at us 'No! it's is a bottle only, not two glasses'. After we explained what we meant he went off to get it. It was clear that they had taken exception to us and if they had been any colder, they would have frozen to the floor. The desert was also delivered the wrong way around. On leaving, not a word was spoken to us, in fact once my card was returned we were left to leave on our own. Very strange indeed. A French couple was seated next to us and they got the service we thought we would get. They had a wine list straight away and were even moved from their table to another table next to the window once it became free. The waiter also offered to take them down to the platform after the meal (we were left to find our own way - which we did) I can't fault the food, it was very nice and the wine was fantastic. The service, however, made my wife and I feel very uncomfortable throughout, which is strange as this is what you're supposed to be a paying for. Never again!

Food was very good but waiters behave as if they are part of a CIA manouver. No sense of humour, personality or human warmth. We were totally surprised.
The decor looks like it is lost in the 1970s - and not the good part. Considering the $700.00 price tag for lunch it it totally was not worth it. The experience was not worth the cost.

The food is out of this world along with the view. I wish my friends could afford to travel with me to the places that I have been. Getting in takes a while, but the wait is worth it. Jules is the best place for dinner with someone you love. It sets the mood for the city of love.

This whole experience was truly amazing, my fiancee planned an amazing day to Paris and lunch at the restraunt was divine, with a beautiful setting and an unforgetable view. The food was superb, so was the service. Highly recommend this to all the romantics out there!

Quite simply, amazing French food, in an amazing setting. I didn't go there until this past year, so I don't know what it used to be like, but according to JuliB.com, Alain Ducasse 'revinented' the restaurant. If he's to credit for such an amazing experience, then God bless him.

This is definitely one of those things that should be on a "must do once before I die" list. if you can do it more than once, even better. I love food and I love cooking and I find it hard to justify eating out most of the time but this is one of those times where, yes, I spent 299 euros for two people at lunch, but - oh my god - did I never regret a single euro, for it was worth it and I would probably pay more!

The food is sublime, with every course exceeding any expectations I might have had before going in and any following on from the previous course. Imagine your perfect menu, perfect service, perfect food - I'm sure this is the closest you can get to gastronomic heaven without actually dying!

I have had the pleasure of eating at Le Jules Verne twice in five years and both occasions were superb! This is one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" experiences that do not disappoint. If you are on a budget, go for lunch Monday-Friday and order the Set Menu for 64 Euros per person. You will be amazed by the number of courses. On Saturday and Sunday the Set Menu costs 142 Euros. I/we had lunch on a Sunday. The delightful lunch consisted of duck pate, asparagus in a truffle cream sauce and Filet Mignon with lunch for two totaling approximately $285. Yes, dollars, however, absolutely no regrets! Do make it a point to go once in your life.

I planned on my 50th birthday that I would eat there on my 60th. What a wonderful experience; worth every penny. We dined at 8pm and were given a table by the window on the Seine side just as we requested. The food, the atmosphere, the service - there just aren't words...

I was with my family for a month-long European tour. Eating at Jules Verne was the celebratory end to a wonderful trip. It was amazing. The restaurant was beautiful, the view even more breathtaking. The food and wine was absolutely perfect with one another. Everyone in my party had an amazing time.

It was a bit last minute, so my wife and I tried booking Altitude 95. How lucky were we that they were full, because we then tried booking at Jules Verne. We called Saturday and they had a table for lunch on Wednesday! The service, food, wine and views were incomparable. Lunchtime prices are not astronomic. Go if you possibly can.

By far the most amazing meal we have ever experienced. We went at lunchtime (evening was fully booked, even when we tried to book 3 months in advance) which allowed us to really appreciate the view from our window table. The staff were wonderful and were understanding of our difficulties in translating the menu. We ordered from the set menu and were not disappointed by either the quality or amount of the food. The whole experience, to call it a meal would be a major injustice, lasted 3 hours and could not be faulted. This should be at the top of anyone's to-do list. Fantastic - cannot wait to go again.

The food, service, view and atmosphere are nearly perfect. It is expensive, but worth it. It was, in fact, probably a 10 but I always leave a little room for the next experience.

We travelled half way around the world to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary with a dinner at Jules Verne and we were not in the slightest disappointed. We chose the 8 course Menu of Discovery which showcased the true talents of the chefs and was complimented with great french wines. Service was excellent and all this combined with the magnificent view of Paris at sunset qualifies Jules Verne as one of the Great Restaurants of the World.
