Located on the banks of the River Nile, on the outskirts of Luxor, the magnificent Karnak Temple is one of the greatest in Egypt, a country not exactly short on awe-inspiring sights.
Karnak is in fact an immense complex of temples, rather than a single structure. These temples were, in ancient times, part of the city of Thebes, then the capital of Egypt and the centre of the empire of the Pharaohs. Karnak actually consists of four main parts, but only one of these - the Precinct of Amun-Ra - is accessible to tourists and the general public. The site is vast, packed with numerous monuments, and can be daunting without a guide (or at least a decent guide book) to give what you're seeing some historical context. It's worth the effort though, a visit to the Karnak Temple is one of those experineces you're guaranteed never to forget.

Take your time, there is loads to see. Find the spot were Jaws lobbed a block at Roger Moore's Bond. Awesome place.
