Nha Trang has a reputation for spectacular sea life. You can see for yourself by going snorkelling, scuba diving or, alternatively, rolling off your sunlounger and hailing one of the lobster-sellers cruising up and down the beach. These walking restaurants carry everything you need for the perfect meal: a bucket of live lobster and a small charcoal cooker. The views are thrown in for free.
With rock bottom prices you have every excuse for going overboard, so take a seat in the sand next to your fellow diners and order away. After a brief and courteous negotiation over price, your lobster is cooked perfectly in front of you before being dressed with a typically Vietnamese mixture of sea salt, lime juice and chopped chillies. You may even get a paper plate and a napkin too if you are lucky. Haute cuisine this is not, but it is certainly gourmet.
