More than just a masterpiece of modernist design, at 135m the London Eye is the tallest observation wheel in the world and gives you a perspective on the city that you simply cannot get from the ground. Set on the newly fashionable south bank of the Thames, your trip begins when you step into one of its 32 sealed glass capsules that slowly revolve to the top and down again over 30 minutes. The whole ride is a thrill but it's from the peak that you see the city in all its wonder: the Thames flowing under Westminster, Waterloo and Tower Bridge; Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament to the West; the great dome of St Paul's Cathedral across the river; the silvery gleam of is cousin the Millennium Bridge, linking the majestic Tate Modern with the north bank. On a bright day you feel you can see the whole city. That said, we suggest going on a dark, moody, misty, windswept winter night, when the city is shrouded in fog and mystery.

Reviews of London Eye

If you're visiting London you have to do it once, it's just one of those things. Not as a amazing as some people say, but I went on a clear day and the view was really something, it gives you a whole new understanding of the city.

My score:

I'm afraid of heights and thought I'd pass out but because of the huge capsules it's not a worry at all! The Eye goes round at a fairly slow speed so you can really capture London - reaching the top is great fun as you can see just about everywhere. Due to the capsules being glass all the way round, it's one pure panoramic view of the city which is fantastic! Definitely worth the money. My friends and I spent most of our time trying to point out Wembley and the other football stadiums - not to mention that you can see the bridges and other fantastic buildings. It's a must do!
