Situated on the side of the majestic Tungurahua volcano, Luna Runtún is one of Ecuador’s most glorious spa resorts. The décor is rustic with a touch of the colonial style, the building and gardens perfectly in keeping with the surroundings – and the view of Banos is quite something. The staff are friendly and attentive, welcoming guests with good food, good wine and a warm ambiance. By day they run adventure tours through the Amazon rainforest, and once you’ve worked up a sweat you can unwind in the spa, where natural ingredients are used to refresh and reinvigorate. Follow this up with a dip in the volcanic water pool and you’ll be ready for anything. Or at least for a long dinner in the Runtun restaurant which serves a tempting mix of European and Ecuadorian dishes.
