Yurts and luxury – surely those are mutually exclusive concepts? Yurts are earthy and basic, a way to reconnect with the elements. Well, yes, but at the Mille Etoiles camp in Ardeche, the tents are as big as hotel rooms. Standing on raised wooden platforms, they are also stylishly furnished and incredibly comfortable. Nothing is sacrificed, and the location is in a league of its own. The camp is perched in the Ardeche river gorge, surrounded by lush, shady forest and blessed with truly striking views. The yurts are designed to sleep two adults, though there is ample room in there for a couple of kids too, making this a brilliant option for an unusual and memorable family holiday. There are also communal cooking yurts – though you can always dine in the onsite restaurant if the idea of self-catering feels too much like hard work.
