Belgium has been climbing the fashion industry’s ladder of respectability of late, but with big name designers emerging out of Antwerp in particular, Brussels had to up its game to avoid losing pace.
One of the major events to raise awareness of homegrown talent is the bi-annual Modo Bruxellae, a fashion designers’ treasure trail. Spread out around the capital’s trendiest districts are various showrooms with temporary installations from a plethora of young, up-and-coming local designers.
Participants pick up a trail map that reveals each of the secret locations and can then make their way around the city, choosing to join the dots between the designers that most appeal and, in true fashionista fashion, inserting frequent pit stops for coffees and sweet pastries along the way.
Modo Bruxellae – it’s fresh, funky, fun and er, Belgian.
