One of the most popular and most visited museums in Barcelona, the Museu Picasso has one of the most extensive collections of artworks by Pablo Picasso in the world. The museum is housed in five magnificent adjoining medieval palaces in Barcelona's Gothic quarter and the permanent collection contains more than 3,500 works, with a concentration on the artist's early years and his Blue Period. The first floor is devoted to Picasso's Blue Period while the second floor is given over to his impressionist-influenced works. Famous canvasses on display include The Defenceless and his haunting Portrait of Señora Canals and there are also a large number of the artist’s ceramics and sketches.
The museum gives you a strong sense of how Picasso’s work developed over the years, focusing on the artist’s life-long relationship with the city of Barcelona.
