Even if only visiting Brussels for 24-hours, eating a bowl of steaming hot mussels simply has to be done.
Usually served in a traditional broth containing white wine, onion, garlic and butter, the pot is typically accompanied with a plate of freshly fried ‘frites’. Make sure there is plenty of white bread for mopping up the juices at the end and a selection of condiments for dipping the chips into. A hand towel should be supplied for wiping your hands with should you choose to ignore your cutlery and do it the old fashioned way too!
No matter how you choose to eat your ‘moules’, there is a sense of this being a timeless ritual that has been enjoyed all over the world, although perhaps nowhere more frequently or with such pleasure than in Brussels itself.

I'd recommend Chez Leon for mussels. It has amazing service, wonderful food, and a central location near the Grande Place. A great place for people new to Belgian cuisine.
