Swedish cuisine may not export as easily as Italian, French or Japanese, but that is not to say there are not a whole host of national delicacies to be discovered by the inquisitive visitor. The Ostermalms Saluhall is pretty much definitive when it comes to gourmet delights in Stockholm. This impressive foodhall inside a 19th Century building is packed full of local products vying for the attention of your taste buds. Smoked reindeer is an obvious place to start, or perhaps some meatballls, and don’t forget the myriad of obscurely named berries on offer either. You are never far from the water in Stockholm so you would expect the fish and seafood to be fresh, and it is. Seriously fresh. The logic behind the Swedish obsession with sweet things is slightly less clear however, but you can’t fail to notice it as you pass by yet another crowded bonbon stall.
