Oud Sluis is, according to the people who know these things, the best restaurant in the Netherlands. Not striving to be hyper-stylish, it is simply a top class local restaurant serving the best possible food to a gastronomically discerning clientele. No flash, no gimmicks, just quality.
It’s certainly worth a visit to Sluis, the tiny Dutch town near the Belgain border that has become a foodie destination in the same way as Bray in the UK (home of the legendary Fat Duck). Though unspectacular from the outside, Chef Sergio Herman’s elegant establishment serves up unusual and memorable dishes such as butternut cream with langoustine tempura, cabernet sauvignon gravy and foie gras, in a light, airy and not overly formal dining room. Desserts include chocolate and black olive cake with Granny Smith granité.
No detail is overlooked, from the plentiful and innovative amuses to the petit fours that accompany the coffee. This is the very definition of fine dining.
