This scenic corner of South Wales was a surprise entrant in a poll of the world’s most beautiful beaches by the UK-based Travel Magazine. But to anyone who’s ever visited the dramatic Gower peninsula, its inclusion won’t be big news. This is a genuinely glorious spot; two and half miles of unspoilt golden sand, backed by rolling dunes.
The bay made the list for resembling something “straight from an Enid Blyton story,” and it’s an apt description. This is a very British beach. Grab an ice cream cone (preferably with a flake) and stroll down to the water’s edge, maybe skip a stone or two. It gets pretty busy in the summer months, in that brief window when the sun actually shines, but if anything it's better to visit off-season when the wind is brisk and you can savour the bleak beauty of the place with less people around, with your collar turned up against the elements and your arm around the shoulder of someone you care about.
