It’s 15 minutes before kickoff but you’re still sipping champagne by a Range Rover in a muddy car park outside the ground. Time for one more, chaps? There is but you drink it fast and then set off, stomach tingling, to take your seat in the stands. Affectionately known as Twickers, English fans see it as the home of rugby, but regardless of what country you’re from, there’s no denying the electric thrill that lights up any international at Twickenham. There have been some classics over the years – France beating the All Blacks here in 1999, for starters – but it’s the cathedral-like setting, the tradition, and the acoustics when England fans sing “Swing Low” that sets the ground apart. You have your seat, the ball is kicked off, and it seems to take eons to come down. And then – crunch! – it’s such a solid tackle that you can hear it in the stands. You’re in for a treat.

Always an excellent option for something to do. The atmosphere is always electric and very friendly. A few tips: turn up early and enjoy a few drinks and some food, watch the match then head back to the pub for a few more drinks while the crowds disperse, then head home later.
