Standing cheek by jowl with enthusiastic playgoers on a midsummer's night at London's Globe Theatre is a dreamy way to see Shakespeare. Built to resemble the original Globe, where many of the Bard's masterpieces were first performed, this stunning open-air playhouse sits on the banks of the Thames in the heart of London.

Go in a group if you can, buy standing seats and arrive early to secure a perfect spot from which you cheer and jeer your way through the action in this Shakespeare venue where audience participation is encouraged!

Reviews of Shakespeare at the Globe

Went here for the first time last year to see Titus Andronicus - amazing, so atmospheric - I can't wait for the new season to start so I can go again!

A wonderful experience. It feels like you have been transported back to Elizabethan England. It gives you a whole new perspective on Shakespeare.

The Globe is a great performance space. This year's line-up may not have been its best - but Lucy Bailey's Titus was fantastic, and so inventive in the way it took the action down into the yard (where the audience stand).

My friend took me for my Birthday. Was expecting, frankly, a bit of a dull evening but the location and atmosphere are superb. Just about made up for the standing around!

I have never experienced such an ovation as at the Globe last year for a production of Much Ado about Nothing.

Planes going overhead are a bit distracting though and standing for four hours can be very physically demanding.

Would definitely recommend it and you can get tickets for as little as £5.

On a great summer's day there is nothing better than an afternoon / evening at the Globe. Even if William Shakespeare is not your thing I'm sure you'll still really enjoy the Globe. It really does feel like you are stuck in the past and the productions are true to Mr Shakespeare. You can stand in the "pit" or pay a bit more and sit in the covered area on the wooden seats (take a cushion with you!) There is the obligatory gift shop and a bit of an exhibition that tells you about the history and heritage of the place. Whatever is playing this summer it makes for a good time.
