Taking place every year in late summer, the Proms is the UK’s premier festival of classical music, famous around the world.
The Proms (short for Promenade Concerts) take place at London’s majestic Royal Albert Hall. The first Proms concert took place in 1895 and the tradition has continued through two world wars, evolving into the major international event that it is today, with a programme of concerts from some of the world’s most celebrated orchestras and soloists.
The festival now includes over 70 main Prom concerts every year – the ultimate experience being the renowned Last Night of the Proms, a uniquely British spectacle. Popular classics and patriotic pieces (Land Of Hope and Glory and such like) provide the soundtrack for a frenzy of flag-waving. Tickets for this, and indeed the entire season, are highly sought after, so booking in advance is a necessity.
