Over 1.5 million people pass through here on an average day, ensure you make it on New Year's Eve. The peep shows and porn may have gone, but this is still the crossroads of the world - you could meet anyone, especially on December 31. Go early and throw yourself into the throng, buy a hotdog from a street vendor, be dazzled by the neon signs and whatever you do keep your eye on the New Year's Eve ball which since 1907 has descended the flagpole of One Times Square on the stroke of midnight. When it does, kiss your companions in the huge mass of humanity that surrounds you, probably from all corners of the world, look at fireworks and squeal.

New Years' '99!! It was fun, but I wouldn't do it again. May have been better if I had been drunker! It consisted mostly of standing around in a massive crowd and waiting. Then bolting toward the PATH train as soon as the ball dropped. If you're in NYC, head to an exclusive club, that'll pretty much guarantee a good time as long as you can get in!
