Nothing short of a gastronomic institution, Troisgros is one of the undisputed best restaurants in the world. Opened in 1930 as a restaurant with rooms by Jean-Baptiste Troisgros and his wife Marie, it was transformed into one of France’s premier fine dining destinations when it was taken over by their sons in the 1950s. Now run by their grandson Michel and his wife Marie-Pierre, it has shifted gears again and is more than capable of competing with other contemporary favourites. The cooking is surprisingly modern and innovative though still very French in origin. A true temple to haute cuisine, this elegant building in the small town of Roanne is a destination restaurant par excellence.
