Ever fancied yourself as a bit of an adventurer? Then it could be time for you to take a hike – on the imposingly spectacular glaciers of Patagonia in Chile and the southern part of Argentina. Glaciers are awesome enough sights from a distance. But to get the chance to see them up close and actually walk on them is a different kind of experience altogether. Los Glaciares National Park in the south west of the province of Santa Cruz in Argentina covers an area of over 600,000 hectares and contains 356 glaciers, including the Perito Moreno, which is the only one in the world that is still growing. The usual way to experience the Perito Moreno and its famous ear-splitting ruptures is by boat, but the daring ones among you will actually want to set foot on this creaking, crawling, groaning mass of ice. It feels like another world and with a little imagination it could be. Bring food, sunglasses and plenty of warm clothes and prepare for a ramble like no other.
