For people who don't want to pay silly prices for strawberry and cream, it might actually be more fun just watching the public going INTO the courts. After all if you get to see everything on TV, it can be irritating being stuck in a seat and being unable to see the match from different point of views. The crowd is always more fun as it’s like everyone is celebrating or having a holiday and it’s a wonderful atmosphere.
Michael, Singapore 06/5/2005The year after my graduation, two buddies and I trekked across Europe with just our backpacks. A long time tennis player and fan, I had planned to be in London for the tournament. It was the first year after the new centre court was built, and tickets were tough to come by. It was the last week of our 4 week journey, and money was tight. I had all but given up on tickets due to their steep prices. I was walking around the stadium with my University of Colorado tee when 4 people stopped to tell me that they too were from Colorado. Turns out they had an extra ticket and I got to watch a match at centre court.
snugglesbear, Denver 06/5/2005I feel I can review this as an impartial observer, not being much of a Tennis fan...
Get some good seats (we were fortunate to enjoy corporate hospitality in Centre Court) and a bottle of Champagne and you can look forward to a great day of world-class sports. The relatively civilised, and terribly 'English' approach makes it all the more entertaining and amusing.
There's a good choice of cafes and bars for the breaks and the inevitable 'rain stops play moments' too.
I got really lucky and got tickets to center court off some tourists coming out who'd seen there 'man' going out and didn't want to see any more play! The atmosphere is really good and the play looks so much more skillful when watched live. I would recommend for any one who gets the chance.
Beware the rain though...
It's not difficult to get centre court tickets if you know how... here's my tip: queue and buy a cheap day tickets for the outdoor court in the first week, and enter the ticket lottery. I have won Centre Court tickets twice. If you don't win big court tickets, then enjoy a different type of experience on Henman Hill, or watch out for the stars of the future on the outer courts.
